AutomaticEvery lesson, every learner — no clutch
Why automatic

Half the things to think about. All of the licence.

Automatic driving lessons remove the clutch and gears from the equation, so you can put your attention where the examiner is actually looking — observation, road position, speed and judgement. Most nervous learners settle noticeably faster in an automatic.

You'll learn in a modern automatic Mercedes A-Class

Comfortable, easy to place on the road and genuinely nice to drive — which matters more than people think when you're spending twenty hours in it.

  • Smooth automatic gearbox — no stalling, no hill-start panic
  • Reversing camera and clear digital display for manoeuvres
  • One instructor, every lesson — you're not passed around
  • Picked up and dropped off at your door

Questions

The things learners ask before booking

How much do automatic driving lessons cost in East London?

Automatic driving lessons with East London Learners are £35.00 an hour when you book a block: £175 for 5 hours, £350 for 10 hours and £525 for 15 hours. A single one-off lesson is £36.50.

There is no joining fee and no contract. Prices are published on the site so you never have to ring round for a quote.

Is Chris a qualified driving instructor?

Yes. Chris is a DVSA-approved driving instructor (ADI) graded A — the highest grade the DVSA awards at a standards check, and one most instructors never reach. His ADI registration number is 460355 and it runs to February 2029.

ADIs are registered with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, background-checked, and re-checked on standards throughout their career. You can tell an approved instructor by the green badge in the windscreen — a trainee holds a pink one. It's worth checking before you book with anyone.

Do you teach manual as well as automatic?

No — East London Learners is automatic only. Chris teaches exclusively in an automatic car, which means every lesson, every route and every mock test is built around automatic driving.

For most learners that's an advantage: without a clutch to think about, you spend your lesson time on observation, road position and judgement, which is what the test actually assesses.

How many driving lessons will I need to pass?

It depends entirely on where you're starting from. The figure the DVSA is most often quoted on is around 45 hours of professional tuition plus roughly 22 hours of private practice — but that is an average across manual and automatic learners, and plenty of people need fewer.

Chris will give you an honest estimate after your first lesson, and he'll tell you if you don't need a bigger block.

Do you pick me up from home?

Yes. Door-to-door pick-up and drop-off is included anywhere in the covered postcodes — E6, E7, E11, E12, E13, E14, E15, E16, E18, E20, IG1, IG2, IG3, IG4, IG11, RM8, SE3, SE7, SE8, SE10, SE16. Home, work, college or the station, whichever is easiest.
